You Can Pretend
the world is evil
you can pretend
we're all accountable
You make a choice
and pay the price for it
You work hard
make some money
Stay the course, and
don't fall down
Stay the course, and
don't fall down.
Buy a house, start a family
Stay the course, and don't look down
Help your children
stay out of trouble
Stay the course and don't fall down
What are you going to do when the wind blows?
You can try to keep standing
Stay on your feet despite the turbulence
Find out who is responsible
Make them pay for what they've done
You make a choice and pay the price for it
There are winners in this world
and there are losers
There is always someone to blame
What are you going to do when the wind blows/ rain comes/ flames won't stop/ rains won't come
Stay the course, and don't back down
(link to song coming soon)
I say hi to you on weekends
And sometimes when I’m at the store
I share with you interesting things
To all of which you don’t reply
I’m not sure you realize
How much it means to me
When I send you my hellos
That you acknowledge my existence
All too often you’re not there
But we both know that’s not the case
Your phone is with you everywhere
You can never not be there
And then I feel your big vibration!
And once again I feel alive!
We’re engaged in conversation!
But the things you say don’t make much sense…
There’s very little punctuation
It’s such a stupid conversation
I hang my head and wonder why
You only text me when you’re high
What you say is not important
You’re not paying much attention
There’s very little punctuation
It’s such a stupid conversation
You only text me when you’re high
You only text me when you’re high
What you say is not important
You’re not paying much attention
I am forced to wonder why
You only text me when you’re high
You only text me when you’re high
There’s very little punctuation
It’s such a stupid conversation
You only text me when you’re high
You only text me when you’re high

Don’t drink the water, you’ll go down, down, down
Don’t join the laughter you’ll go down, down, down
Don’t listen to the drunks, they go round and round
The religious nuts, they go round and round Don’t put your hand up, they’ll take you to the ground
Don’t drink the water D
on’t look at the sky, you’ll go blind, go blind Open your eyes and you’ll go blind, blind, blind
Don’t pay attention to the other side
Never mind what’s on the other side
Stay where you are for your peace of mind Don’t look up, you’ll go blind, you’ll go blind
Why take the time, Why make sacrifices? Why risk everything to the toss of the dice?
Don’t trust the rain, it’s all lies, it’s all lies Don’t listen to your brother and his words for the wise
Don’t use your voice, it’s too loud, it’s too loud You’re better off getting lost in the crowd Don’t ask questions, don’t play with fire
Don’t listen to the rain
Why spend the money, why build a case Why stay up all night running someone else’s race? Don’t fight the battle, it’s a winless war Nobody knows what they’re fighting for
Just shut out the lights and close the door Don’t let the neighbors in anymore
Don’t ask questions, don’t fan the flames
And don’t drink the water

Our eyes were wide
When they dropped the bait
Like an Adam and Eve We took the fruit and ate
We ate it all And it was good
One nation, United We Stood
It was on TV The rockets red glare
United we watched It was like we were there We bought it all From our country station
It was our mission To protect our nation
From the comfort of home Good Morning Iraq Good Evening Afghanistan Hope y’all come back
It was all so exciting It was all so much fun
All that desert warfare And soldiers and guns It was PG-13 They didn't show much blood Nobody saw any dying Just the occasional SCUD
And then the ratings tanked Just like that
And we got tired of standing So United We Sat
And to this day With our virtual ticket
We’re still here waiting United We Sit
Bad things happen All of the time
And we express our outrage To our friends online
United We Sit At home on our asses
Out in the streets Invisible masses
United We Sit At home on our asses
As the planet burns We clink our glasses United We Sit On our asses As democracy dies.. Another day passes
A system malfunction Why take it apart
This mishandled matter It's someone else's fault
Don't know who to trust these days
Don't know where to start
These misguided actions Must be someone else's fault
(Link to song coming soon)
Mountain peaks and waterfalls
deep inside your brain
and voices informing and noises of warning
blowing in the wind
Caffeine to wake up at dawn
Pills to sleep at night
The day is a hurricane with damaging floods
You put it all away
Another time, another place
to make this disappear
like skipping a chapter or changing the channel
out of sight and mind
Where will you be running to
or are you running away?
Are you looking for a lover or just better weather on the other side?
Minotaurs and unicorns haunt you in your sleep
They're bucking and kicking, laughing and singing
and you are paralyzed
You're tired of the lemons, tired of the headwind
Tired of being sick when you used to be well
Tired of being tired in the middle of the day
You don't have the patience to feel this way
Tired of the demons and their unkept promises
tired of believing them and falling in their traps
Tired of waking up on the wrong side of the day
Something tells me it doesn't have to be this way
(Link to song coming soon)
In the land of make believe nobody cares about anything
Why worry, What's the hurry?
The economy is strong, and the weather looks lovely
In the land of make believe, there's always something for everyone
Grab a beer, have no fear
There's enough to go around and around and around
In the land of make believe nobody needs to know anything
What we're aware of, it's taken care of
The whole world is happy and everyone is free
and everyone is free
Unless they don't wanna be
Unless they don't wanna be
In the land of make believe
In the land of make believe
nobody tells you what to do
so spend your money
Go to Disney
but only if you want to
In the land of make believe
nobody cares about anything
Why worry, what's the hurry
The economy is strong, and the weather looks lovely
The economy is strong and the weather looks lovely
The economy is lovely
and the weather looks strong
When a child is afraid of unfamiliar terrain
She tells a story
with a triumphant outcome
When you fall asleep at night with worry in your heart
Your dreams tell a story
to keep you on your toes
A worried mind gets old and begins to decay
It tells you stories with the fragments that remain
All These Times when you're alone
The switchboard breaks down
You get these stories
sometimes they don't make sense at all
Take me back to that
one room apartment
loneliness was so simple
We would walk to the ocean
kick off your shoes and you're free
All These Times when you're alone The switchboard breaks down You get these stories sometimes they don't make sense at all
They don't make sense
They don't make sense
They don't make sense at all
The wall around your conscience
Is bigger than your soul
It keeps out all the facts and figures
You'll never want to know
\You ordered it on Amazon
It arrived the other day
Bought it with a gift card
And installed it earlier today
It's screwed into your frontal cortex
And weaves around your brain
It's a wall around your conscience
To fend off anxiety and pain
Except it also keeps out other things
With its thickness and it's height
Like will power and compassion
And a sense of wrong and right
You're jumping into a great big hole
You're jumping into a great big hole
With the wall around your conscience
Comes a money back guarantee
You won't ever have to think again
Or question authority
No scientific theory Or political nonfiction
Will ever help you navigate Your moral contradictions
Like school shootings and abortion
A new Star Wars movie every year
The NFL and climate change
And citrus flavored beer
So relax and feel secure
You're safe from the chaos and disorder
Every worry dispatched from your heart
Has been detained at the border
There's a wall around your conscience
It's bigger than your soul
There's a wall around your conscience
It's swallowing you whole
Inside the wall around your conscience They're busy digging a great big hole
Inside the wall around your conscience They're digging you a great big hole
You're jumping into a great big hole
You're jumping into a great big hole
Is there something I can get you?
Is the horse shit too tough?
There’s more where that came from
Have you eaten enough?
Don’t go to bed hungry
I can tell you’re not through
You say you’ve had plenty
We both know that’s not true!
You’re smiling on the outside
But I can see you’re not well
Something must be up my friend
You’re conflicted I can tell
Do you trust me enough with your keys
To unlock this secret disease?
Did you contract it traveling overseas
Or when you willfully got on your knees?
You know the first step is acceptance
Can you tell me where it aches?
Will you regain use of your head?
Tell me what will it take?
I know there’s no time like never
Just know I’m here if you need me
If you end up somewhere near
You know how to reach me
I could never fit in your shoes
I’ve never been through that kind of abuse
That does not give you the right to choose
To be willfully, chronically confused
There’s a towel in the bathroom
Clean sheets on the bed
There’s a light in the hallway
If you’re feeling out of your head
So until we meet again my friend
Let the show resume
Know when to say when
And be careful what you consume
I wonder where you are today
Or what you’ve become
Do you suffer the same frustrations
Or are there new ones
If I recall I was one of them
But you put me in my place
Never to be seen again
My profile would be erased
I must admit I thought of you
On some quiet nights
The way you touched me, the way you read me
Everything felt right
And then I see my own face
And I feel my own sorrow
I’ve made my mistakes
Will I ruin my tomorrow?
And I’m plagued by this sickness
That will not go away
No matter who I turn to
At the end of the day
And you will never know me
Or look at me again
And who else will you touch
And curse with your pen
And when I see my own face
Will it ruin my tomorrow?
Can I live with my mistakes?
What comes around goes around
And I’m still on my way
I know I’ll stumble and likely fall
And suffer many ugly days
I hope that you have found your way
And loosened up your grip
And let go of those useless battles
Before you sink another ship
Everyone is a little crazy we’ve all got our battle wounds
You’ve given me perspective
I am not immune
I’m not ever gonna give up on you
I’m not ever gonna give up on you
No matter what you say, no matter what you do
I’m not ever gonna give up on you
I don’t believe you for a second
I’m not threatened and your words do not offend
But I do wonder about your feelings
And from where your convictions descend
Because I don’t think it’s from a place of compassion
And I don’t think it’s your political fashion
And I know you you’re not stupid and I know you’ew not unlearned
Which brings us to this timely interaction
Some say we shouldn’t walk down that street
“They’ll tell lies,” they say, “and laugh at you and cheat,
And while you fill the air with righteousness and reason
They won’t listen to a single word you speak.”
Well I’m here to say I’m walking down that street
You may not speak my language or eat the food I eat
But we both have ears and eyes and a conscience
So I ask you to please take a seat
Lol, laughy-face, rotfl
I can’t force you to take a bitter pill
But I’ll say it anyway in case you hear it
Your disposition comes from fear and ignorance and not goodwill
No, I’m not ever gonna give up on you
I’m not ever gonna give up on you
No matter what you say, no matter what you do
I’m not ever gonna give up on you
No matter what you say, no matter what you do
I’m not ever gonna give up on you
No matter what you say, no matter what you do
I’m not ever gonna give up on you
I can’t help but notice
The flag on your truck
Twitching out the back
Like a tail... like a tail on a duck
Leaves one to wonder
Is there a parade?
Something you want to say?
Or are you just… or are you just afraid?
Forgive my curiosity
If it seems out of place
But there’s something going on here
Is this something you embrace?
Who is your target audience?
Should I be laughing or amused
Or are you hoping to offend me?
Because mostly I’m confused
With your dumbass truck flag flapping
You fill your heart with confidence
Outspoken and anonymous
You educate the populace
I feel sorry for you
I feel sorry for you
I feel sorry for you
I feel sorry for you
Sometimes I can’t figure out
What is wrong with me
I have trouble understanding
How I came to be
It’s a tangled up mess in side
Of rusted barbed wire
A reservoir of questions
And an endless quagmire
I want to let it go
Don’t know if I should
I went out to the west coast
And then I came back east
I went walking in the hills
And dove into the sea
And I still can’t clear my head
I can't clear my head
Won’t you please help me
I want to let it go
Don’t know if I could
When I get to thinking I go
Deep inside my head
I wander through the corridors
And find stacks of books unread
There’s so much to discover there
That I had never known
I need assistance from the help desk
Before I set out on my own
Won’t you please help me?
I want to let it go
I don’t know if I should
I want to let it go
I don’t know if I could
I feel powerless
To stop the ruin
All this cowardice
Gone rogue
There’s not much that I can do
Nothing I can say to you
It’s gonna be ok
Some fucking day
But I can play my music
To occupy my mind
I find it therapeutic
To leave it all behind
I like presumptuous rock
Conscientious rock
I’m an elitist, completist
Defeatist fan of audacious rock
It’s complicated rock
It’s pretentious rock
It’s adult contemporary
Sedimentary rock
It’s not ridiculous talk
To like contemptuous rock
Do you like that vibe?
Then join my tribe!
If you think it’s complicated
Then you’re probably gonna hate it
You gotta move to the polyrhythm
Calculate the algorithm
Feel it in your brain
Total sugarcane
But I can play my music

I beat on the tom tom drum
I beat on a cheap snare drum
Until I come around
I beat on my little kick drum
Pick up a guitar and strum
Until I come down
Empty the head of all things
Is shoveling a bottomless pit
There’s no room for anything new
All these memories and broken feelings
You unlock the floodgates and let it
Come bursting on out
Waves breaking over the levee
Bystanders all stop to watch
Take a picture to file away
These memories and awful thoughts
Are bound to overflow and take out
Everything in their path
The songs (see songs and lyrics below) from The Whim of a Beast were inspired by an environmental interpretation of the Book of Job, from the Hebrew Bible, and how humans respond to unexpected danger and adversity. When danger lurks, what is happening in the human brain?
The Moaning Sallys are an independent rock and roll band. The 2018 debut album, The Whim of a Beast, and the second album, out in December 2020, Adult Contemporary Pretentious Rock, can be streamed on your favorite digital platform.
The Whim of a Beast was written and recorded during 2016 and 2017. It was mixed and mastered in 2018 by Jud Caswell, and released in May of 2018.
Think of these songs as folk songs, or little musical stories that paint pictures of how human beings respond to adversity-- major life-changing events we cannot control. These include, but are not limited to, being born into a disadvantaged situation, becoming deathly ill or disabled, losing a loved one, losing a job, losing a home in a hurricane, or suddenly losing.. everything. Now imagine if you could go back in time and negotiate fate with the powerful entity that caused your dispossession (your boss? the government? a wild animal? God? the planet?). Would you be sly with your negotiations, or would you be careful?
What happens in our brain when really bad circumstances change everything? How does this affect our priorities? Our compassion for others?
Now, think of all of this from an environmental perspective. How does an animal respond to powerful natural occurrences? How does the human animal respond?
This is not an entity that wants to make money from you or exploit you. We hope to connect with you through our music and art.
There is nothing wrong with artists making money from their art, but this is different.
We want you to communicate with us. We did not pay Facebook or Twitter to promote ourselves; we would just love to hear from you.
You may click on the link to listen to any or all of the songs below. The lyrics are included (sometimes song lyrics are difficult to decipher, and sometimes the melody can be a distraction from the story).

Hey, what can I say?
I don’t know what to think of all this
Grace, so late
I cannot say I trust you’re here to
Stay, or run away?
As if I got down on my knees and
Prayed to replace
Every single thing you took away from me
There is nothing
Left of me
No one home
To receive
Just a darkness
In a doorway
Where your presence
Used to be
Today is the day
I give up all that’s left I have to
Lay and decay
Let the creatures clean my flesh and bones
And wash away in the rain
Any evidence of all this life’s
Pain and start again
So a man might never make the same
Mistakes that I have made
And the stars will then shine down on a better place
There is nothing
Left of me
No one home
To receive
Just a darkness
In a doorway
Where your presence
Used to be
https://themoaningsallys.bandcamp.com/track/accidental-theme-park
Some surprises are good
Some surprises are not so good
The rising sliver of a moon
Cradling Venus
And the red light from a cell tower
It can be life changing
Rain coming down now
And freezing on impact
Looks like a theme park
That destroys lives
Like magic
Some people say things happen
For a reason
But the reality is most things don’t
It can be life changing
It is like some type of insanity
Asking a question
When the answer is obvious
And some people say things happen
For a reason
But the reality is most things don’t
Still we ask why.
If a beggar asks for money
And a coward begs for mercy
He looks you in the eye
Do you believe him?
Some people say things happen
For a reason
But the reality is most things don’t
It can be life changing
And sometimes these things
They keep happening
Relentlessly

Oh when the sun comes up
Oh when the sun comes up
Oh when the sun comes up
I’m gonna sow the seeds of hope
Oh when the rains come
Oh when the rains come
Oh when the rains come
I’m gonna watch the fields turn green
Oh when the wheat grows high (x3)
It’s gonna make the cattle fat
Oh but the sun is hot
Oh but the sun is hot
Oh but the sun is hot
Why it could dry up all the land
Oh if the rains don't come (x3)
We watch the earth go dry
Oh when the earth goes dry (x3)
We’re gonna wonder what went down, down
https://themoaningsallys.bandcamp.com/track/day-breaks
Day Breaks, the wind takes, the earth shakes, and you awake
And it gives you chills.
Too much at stake, your mind aches, your eyes make the snowflakes
Seem to sit still
The day brings its ugly things, the devil sings, and you’re pretending
To be okay
Your phone rings, the truth stings, hurts your feelings, and you’re beginning
To peel away
Pick a card now, any card
Let’s see what you get
Ace of spades or a 3 of hearts
How much you wanna bet
There’s a chance that you could win
There’s a chance that you could lose
Anything could happen, no matter what you choose
Come what may, find your way, bills to pay, their due today
But who cares
Keep away, there’s a storm at bay, a sea of gray, so down you lay
But you can’t do that
Paralyzed by doubt, you can’t set out, motivation drought, it’s all about
To fall apart
Man down on the ground won’t make a sound this broken town
Your engine won’t start
Pick a card now, any card
Let’s see what you get
Ace of spades or a 3 of hearts
How much you wanna bet
There’s a chance that you could win
There’s a chance that you could lose
Anything could happen, no matter what you choose
https://themoaningsallys.bandcamp.com/track/repent
When I lay down at night
And I look up at the sky
And I think about the things I want to be
And I listen to the sound
Of the wind in the trees
And I think of what it all means to me
And when the silence gets me down
And things don't go my way
I bow my head down and I begin to pray
Please protect my land
Look after my family
Please bless my health and prosperity
And God says:
Don't fuck with me
Do your eyes even see
Despise thyself and repent in dust and ashes
https://themoaningsallys.bandcamp.com/track/working-man
Middle aged
working man
set his bag
on the living room floor, the living room floor
Closed his eyes,
put his feet up
Another day’s work
is done
Another day’s work
is done
feels better than
a week at home, a week at home
The house is paid off
the kids are in college
One should get
a pat on the back
He worked hard
to get where he is
Before he was
a businessman, a businessman
He was a child
in a different world
He was a child
in a different world, a different world
He grew up
honest and sincere
Always thought
of other people first
and in the best
or the worst of times
he never let
another man down, another man down
He never once
did foresee
misfortune
or tragedy
He never once
did foresee
misfortune
or tragedy
Just as the sun
doesn’t shine eternally
that which defines you
sometimes defies you
Just as the day
gives way to night
somewhere, somebody
loses everything, loses everything
You only know if you live there
when surrender is
no longer a choice for
a working man
A working man
Becomes just a man
the only thing that matters
the only thing you feel
a wretched wound
too deep to heal
when a working man
becomes just a man, becomes just a man
you don’t care
what happens next
what happens next
is a mystery
you don’t want to know
what happens next
what happens next
is a mystery, a mystery
He never once
did foresee
misfortune
or tragedy
He never once
did foresee
misfortune
or tragedy
https://themoaningsallys.bandcamp.com/track/look-out-for-number-one
Listen to your brother
Stand up for your right to be right
You shouldn’t wait any longer
It’s time you put up some kind of fight
You'll be taken for a peasant
Beaten down and broken
Imprisoned and abandoned
Stolen from and left for dead
There’ll be nothing left to lose
You'll see your inaction will lead you to your end
Don’t let it come to that;
Stand up for your right to be right
Look out
For number one
Before your world
Has come undone
Just go stick it
To the boss
Don’t chalk up
Another loss
There’s no time
For meditation
When you risk
Annihilation
You gotta look out for number one
Look out for number one
Look out for number one
Looks like bad weather
On the western horizon
Will you stay and get wet,
Or pack your bags and run?
https://themoaningsallys.bandcamp.com/track/battle-the-winds-of-change
It’s a special kind of deflation
Self loathing, humiliation
Gone from a place of law and order
Dragged backwards across the border
Stranded out at the edge of a crisis
On that blinding summer day
We packed up and hauled away
Then the boat got turned around
You were nowhere to be found
I was left behind and everything
suddenly changed
Will you do this to me every time
Abandon all reason or rhyme
Slap your hand across my face
And disappear without a trace
You’re no different than any other guy
What is next upon your horizon
While you’ve got your brilliant disguise on?
Who else will you destroy?
What tactics will you employ
To demonstrate your lack of compassion
How can you expect such loyalty
When you strip away the royalties
Of every brick and every stone
One lays when one is all alone
To eliminate any evidence of shame?
Will you reconcile or reappear?
Are you far away or are you near?
Will there ever be another day
When the house is not in disarray?
Are you listening to what I am saying?
What’s left from our fertile land
Out in the windblown dust and sand
Are the flesh and bones left from your violence
And the screaming voices trapped in the silence
Do you remember me?
Do you remember me?
https://themoaningsallys.bandcamp.com/track/out-of-the-blue
Oh, figured it out
You were gone all this time
And now your
Call, out of the blue
Or am I hearing things?
How can I
Know, what is your plan for me?
Are you waiting for me to
Get down on my knees, and beg for mercy
And forgiveness, I couldn’t possibly
Why do you torture me so?
You can never make up your mind
Til you’ve shaken me
Cold and left out to dry
But you hung on by a thread
And never let
Go and what should I do?
Wait for you to call my number?
I couldn’t possibly
Oh, I’m on my own now
Oh, I will suffer and die
Oh, leave me alone
Let the ground swallow me (whole)
Be on your merry way
This bird has long since flown
I am nothing, just a
Stone, weathering down
Soon I will disappear and be
Blown into the wind
And then where will I be?
You will have swallowed me
https://themoaningsallys.bandcamp.com/track/reborn
I’m not so emotional about the things I lost
I’ve got a hole inside and the rest has been tossed
I’ve still got options as long as there’s oxygen
Just a relic of my old self, an ego out of control
You can try to educate me, medicate me, evaluate me
Humiliate me, castigate me, bring me to my knees
But you might as well give up, because the damage has been done
No therapy or remedy can undo what I’ve become
I like to be at home, gives me peace of mind
Put my ducks all in a row, get my forces organized
Now that I’ve been reborn, I surrendered all my trust
In anything and everything I will never realize
Like a dog that won’t stop barking, I will not go away
The more you try to push me back, the longer I will stay
And I will not understand, I will not try to see your side
I cannot compromise what is left of my precious pride
Once upon a time there was peace in my neighborhood
But then a bolt of lightning came and shook me where I stood
There was nobody I could blame, no one I could go to
So I built myself a bunker and emerged anew

Hold out; there's a reason
Declare; your position
Relax; make them listen
Litigate; play the system
There’s an incentive at the end of the road
A well intended kick to help you carry the load
Watch out; they mean business
Keep talking; go the distance
Defend… your indifference
Pretend… it's almost Christmas
Anything to make them sign their willpower away
Make them laugh at you, tell them what they want you to say
Midnight sound byte
Have trouble seeing in the daylight
I'm not alright
When I look back in hindsight
Insist… on an answer
Resist… the necromancer
Seek and… demand evidence
Depend… on your intelligence
Something's bound to give if you refuse to let go
A catastrophic ending to a puppet show
Stay focused; confuse the people
Don't worry… if it's illegal
Hire backup… in case it's peaceful
Conduct… big upheaval
Blow it all to pieces at the end of the day
Everything that dies comes back to life anyway
Midnight sound byte
Have trouble seeing in the daylight
I'm not alright
When I look back in hindsight
https://themoaningsallys.bandcamp.com/track/complicated-mind
Inside the complicated mind of a tortured man
a dilapidated, mismanaged factory
And in among the belts and the ceiling fans
A single neuron has a plan to make it history
While the others took their place on the assembly line
This one listens to a different rhythm
He watches how the others seem to blindly comply
And perpetrate the very condition that kills them
A martyr by any moral standard
A terrorist in the eyes of the law
If one had only seen and heard
And witnessed the only tragic flaw
It’s time to put a stop to the madness
Nature has a way of reaping revenge
The whole operation has been a mess
This problematic journey has come to an end
Let it rest (ah..)
High up in the heat vents there emits an odor
If it’s toxic no one cares and if it stops they don’t notice
They concentrate to maintain a functioning motor
He watches it unfold from the executive office
He locks himself inside, one dendrite on the lever
100 billion workers, their lives on the line
To keep them from misery, he had to be clever,
A hero to save them from their dreadful decline
The workforce below begins to stutter and slow
Poison seeps into their unsuspecting nuclei
The engines shut down, the lights all go out
An innocently executed suicide
A martyr by any moral standard
A terrorist in the eyes of the law
If one had only seen and heard
And witnessed the only tragic flaw
It’s time to put a stop to the madness
Nature has a way of reaping revenge
The whole operation has been a mess
This problematic journey has come to an end
Let it rest (ah..)

Everybody's looking
At the sky tonight
And if I'm not mistaken
You know it doesn't feel quite right
Something’s out of place it seems
about the stars tonight
And though it might be in my head,
We might be better off keeping them in sight
Did you hear about the elder generation
They’re meeting in an undisclosed location
And you know what they’re saying
the winds are different today
Will you remember what they said
When you’re on your own one day
There’s been a change in direction
We’re gonna have to turn the other way
The veil is lifted, The planet shifted!
And things are gonna be a little different now
That’s what the old man said
We’re entering an era of significant uncertainty

Wake Up from your Slumber
Shake off your midnight fantasies
Open the blinds and let the daylight in
and then tell me what you see
Wake up from your slumber
Lift up your weary head
Open the door and let some oxygen in
and have a listen to what's been said
They say some people were angry
Nobody listened to their plight
But this time it was different
The only ones complaining were white
No the situation is not that simple
It's not some kind of Jesus revolution
when the savior that you've chosen is a symbol
of hate and greed and fear and exclusion (of ignorance and hatred and exclusion)
and you expect us to remain silent
It’s like I’ve been sentenced to prison
You place all your trust in a tyrant
Because he knows how to tell is like it isn't
You might want to ask this question
Now that everyone is all upset
with a long tradition of oppression
is this an outcome that we could not prevent?
